1. Joseph the Messiah?
    1. We have looked at how Joseph was a type of Messiah
      1. He was sent to Egypt to prepare the way for Israel’s salvation
      2. He revealed himself to his brothers as a sign of the Messiah restoring himself to the children of Israel.
    2. The Exodus is the foreshadowing of the ultimate redemption of Israel.
      1. These are the names of the children Israel who came out of Egypt.
      2. Why repeat this as it was also stated in Genesis 46: 8
      3. It could hint to the two Exodus’s of the children of Israel.
        1. One from Egypt
        2. One from this world as the final Exodus
    3. This exodus is only able to happen because Joseph went as a forerunner to Israel coming to Egypt to make the necessary arrangements for their salvation
    4. Jesus goes to prepare a place for you I will come again and receive you to Myself that were I am there you may be also. John 14: 2, 3

      1. I am about to die so carry my bones up from here Genesis 50: 24, 25

      3. Jesus cried out to the father who was the One able to save Him from death Hebrews 5: 7.  He was willing to die but He was unwilling to remain in the grave
  2. A New King Exodus 1: 8
    1. He did not know Joseph or how he saved Egypt
    2. This could be the devil who does not acknowledge the Messiah
    3. He makes the lives of the children of Israel bitter
      1. We are in bondage to sin and bitter
    4. Pharaoh kills the children
      1. Herod kills the children.  When a savior is coming, the devil responds int he same way.
      2. Tradition tells us that the astrologers foresaw a savior coming for Israel and that is why Pharaoh was to kill the children.
    5. A man of Levi (Amram) goes to Jochebed to take her as his wife.
  3. Miriam
    1. Tradition states Amram divorced his wife after the birth of Aaron and Miriam because any other children would have to be thrown into the river and killed.
      1. So why get back together?
    2. Exodus 15: 20, 21 Miriam the prophetess, Aaron’s sister
      1. Miriam is a prophetess
      2. She is Aaron’s sister.
        1. Why only mention that she is the sister of Aaron and not Moses?
        2. This is not just a piece of Bible trivia
      3. The reason she is mentioned as the sister of Aaron and a prophetess is that her prophetic ministry starts before there was a Moses.
      4. The Egyptian astrologers were not the only ones prophesying a savior was coming.  Miriam had one and gave it to her mother and father that they would give birth to a savior of the people.
        1. In the midst of the confusion and problems, they believed Miriam and got back together and had a child Moses.
    3. Moses was good???
      1. A good game to play with the bible when there is a unique statement is where have I heard that before?
      2. God saw that the light was good. Genesis 1: 4
      3. When he was born, light filled the room and they knew the prophecy was true.
      4. THE LIGHT IS JESUS THE SAVIOR SO MOSES IS A TYPE OF SAVIOR John 1: 4, 5
        1. Light shined in the darkness and the darkness did not understand it.  John 1: 5, 9
        2. For God who said Light shall shine out of darkness is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God int he face of Messiah    2 Corinthians 4: 6
      5. Jocheved could not hide the baby as the Egyptians were coming to kill the new born babies
  4. The River
    1. She put Moses in the river where, the Egyptians were throwing the babies
    2. Slim hope of survival as she put the baby in the crocodile infested river surrounded by Egyptians trying to kill him
    3. She could not stand around to see how this turned out but Miriam did
    4. Miriam stands at a distance in the reeds to see what would happen to him. 2: 4
      1. Why did she follow and the others turn away?  She had what they did not have a prophecy.
      2. EXAMPLE: Hound dog sees a rabbit and starts howling.  Soon other dogs are chasing the rabbit.  Eventually, they give up and go back to sleeping. The original dog keeps chasing it because it saw the rabbit, the others only heard about the rabbit.
      3. Just because we don’t know how the baby can be saved doesn’t mean that it can’t be saved.
    5. Pharaoh’s daughter starts walking toward the baby
      1. What went through Miriam’s mind when the daughter of the one killing the children comes toward the baby?
      2. Miriam ceases the moment and jumps out of the reeds and states that she knows of a woman who lost her child that can breast feed this child.  The daughter states that she should get this woman at once.
  5. The Sea of Reeds Exodus 14: 13 – 14
    1. Moses is at the Sea of Reeds with Egypt coming toward them to kill them
    2. He states Stand and Watch the salvation that God will perform
      1. This is the same thing Miriam did Exodus 2: 4
      2. Other similarities?
        1. Water, Helpless, Egypt coming at them
        2. Not just a river, but a whole sea, Moses a single baby, now a whole nation, Not just Pharaoh’s daughter, but the whole army coming at them
      3. If you want to get out of this alive, let’s be like Miriam was in trusting the prophecy she received
      4. NO IDEA WHERE SALVATION IS COMING FROM, BUT WE HAVE A PROMISE

    2. The whole nation drew on the same strength that Miriam had at the Nile
    3. Now Miriam Aaron’s sister sings a song she has been waiting for 80 years to sing. Exodus 15: 20, 21
