Gray Areas

Not ready to let go of summer yet so we are going one more in our series.

  1. Need for more faith

Luke 17: 1 – 5

Notice that the disciples did not ask for more faith when they saw Jesus raise the dead, heal the sick, cast out demons.

To be able to have the characteristics of faith to live as salt and light int his world, we would need an increase of faith.

Vs 6 If you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, “May you be uprooted and thrown into the sea and it would obey.

2. Submission and faith

Jesus goes into an illustration of what it means to be a person of faith that seems to be totally unrelated.

Luke 17: 7 – 10

Could it be the greater the level of our submission to the authorities over us, the greater our faith?

  1. What was the duty of the servant?
    1. Bring food for the master
    2. For us this would entail producing fruit that lasts.

3. Authorities over us place there by God

Romans 13: 1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities.  For there is no authority except from God and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.

subject = subject oneself, obey,

Maybe its because our country was started in a revolution, or so many avenues for us to voice our opinions, but it seems to be in our DNA to make statements and live lives in disobedience to those who are in authority over us.

Bible is really clear about this

  1. Because of a spirit of lawlessness, the love of many will grow cold. Matthew 24: 12
  2. Spirit of lawlessness is already at work 2 Thessalonians 2: 7
  3. Depart from me you who practice lawlessness. Matthew 7: 23

Lawless condition of throwing off law, but spirit that makes us ignorant of it.

James 1: 22 Do not only hear the word, but do what it says.

Seed of rebellion in our hearts will destroy us.

4. Honor the King

1 Peter 2: 13 for the Lord’s sake respect all human authority–whether king or head of state.

Vs 17 Fear God and respect the king.  (King killed James in Acts 12: 1, 2)

Vs 18, 19 even when those in authority over you are cruel and unkind.

Many times God will send us what we need in a package we don’t want.

Want you go be great people of faith?

I want you to be welcomed into heaven for doing right and preparing food for our king.
