We are answering the question in Mark “What is the most important commandment?”

Jesus answered. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart soul mind and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself.”

1 Corinthians 13 4b, 5a “Love is not…Proud or rude”

Pride = a high or inordinate opinion of one’s own dignity, importance, merit, or superiority, displayed in bearing, conduct,

Jesus and Moses Both called themselves humble. (See Number 12: 3; Matthew 11: 28, 29)

False Humility can be show through…

  1. Becoming More Religious (See Uzziah 2 Chronicles 26: 16 ff)
  2. Eliab accusing David about his pride ( 1 Samuel 17: 26 – 28; 1 Samuel 16: 6, 7)

Humility Defined

  1. James 4: 7 So Humble yourselves before God

We can humble ourselves by how we respond to others. 1 Peter 5: 5

2. Work in the power of God

2 Corinthians 3: 5 It is not that we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God.

2 Corinthians 12: 9, 10 Now I am glad to boast about how weak I am. I am glad to be a living demonstration of Christ’s power instead of showing off my own power and abilities.

3. Understands the fear of God

Psalm 25: 9, 12 The humble he teaches his way… Who is it that fears the Lord. He will show them the path they should choose.

Revelation 3: 17

Key Point: Humility starts with a fear of God
