Names of God - Why Prayers Go Unanswered -

We want to look at why it seems that God doesn’t seem to answer prayers through the example of Gideon

Gideon was threshing wheat in a wine press Judges 6: 11, 12

He asked where God was in the midst of their problems Vs 13, 14, but God answered that question through a prophet in Judges 6: 8 – 10

God calls Gideon a Mighty Warrior. Remember God has a name for you that is how He sees you not how we see ourselves.

Gideon builds an altar to the Lord there and named it Jehovah Shalom which means the Lord is Peace

Remember Peace is not ZEN, it is a right relationship between us and God

Romans 8: 6 letting the flesh control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind, leads to life and peace.

There is a process for getting peace and Righteousness must come first

1. Isaiah 32: 17

2. Romans 3: 11 – 17

3. Hebrews 7: 2 Melchizedeck was known as the king of righteousness first then the king of peace

4. Ephesians 2: 14 – 17 Peace was established through the cross

Jesus came to set the world on fire Luke 12: 49

1. This means he came to set his people on fire

2. This caused the opposition to burn against us so they go hand in hand

Before righteousness can come, we have to clean the house Judges 6: 25

What hinders prayer in our lives?

1. Sin stops prayers Isaiah 59L 1, 2

2. Selfishness prayers don’t get answered James 4: 3

3. An unforgiving spirit will hinder prayer Mark 11: 25

4. Lack of respect in marriage will hinder prayer 1 Peter 3: 7

5. Not believing God will hinder prayer James 1: 5 – 7

How do we light the fire in our lives?

1. Seek God Hosea 10: 12

2. Read books about heroes of the faith(here are some that have inspired me)

3. There will be a battle when we go after the idols in our lives. Satan called Gideon Jerub-baal which means baal is going to get you.

Key Point: God is looking for people who will pick a fight.
