Chapter 19 Jesus Returns as the Conquering King of the Earth

 

Couple of weeks ago, we saw the whole world crying over the fall of Babylon.  Now we are going to contrast that with a song of praise in heaven for the returning king.

 

  1. Praise for the judgment of Babylon 1 – 5
    1. Praise The Lord (Hallelujah) Only place that it is used in New Testament.
      1. Really is a word for heaven that we will all be singing.
    2. Reason for the Hallelujah
      1. No one can stand against your power.
      2. Your judgments are right and just
        1. God does not need to explain himself to man or anyone else.
        2. He has destroyed Babylon
      3. You have avenged the blood of your servants.
      4. Your judgement is final and absolute.
      5. Smoke ascends forever and ever
    3. Voice cries out for all beings to worship God their creator.
  2. Praise for the marriage supper of the Lamb Vs 6 – 9
    1. At times heaven becomes a very noisy place.  Vs 6
    2. The Lord Almighty reigns
      1. Roman Emperors would proclaim themselves as king with the title “lord” and exclaim “I am god”  Psalm 2 says God laughs at them and here He is showing Himself as God Almighty.
      2. he rules over all, yet cares about the smallest detail of our lives.
    3. Rejoice and be glad Vs 7 only used one other place.  Matthew 5: 12 Rejoice and be glad when persecuted because great reward awaits you in heaven.
    4. God is bringing us into a relationship so close it is called the Marriage Supper of the Lamb.  Vs 7
    5. Given pure clothes to wear.
      1. 1 John 3: 3 every man purifies himself
      2. Jude 21 keeping yourselves in the Love of God.
      3. 2 Corinthians 7: 1 cleanse ourselves from all filthiness.
      4. Reward being given for living righteous lives while here.
    6. Blessed are those invited to the banquet.
      1. Jesus spoke longingly of this day when he would drink wine again (Matthew 26: 29)
      2. Luke 13: 29 from all over they will come and sit at the table
      3. Lord prepares a banquet in Mt Zion Isaiah 24: 6 – 8
      4. Matthew 22: 1 – 14 parable of the banquet.
    7. Blessed and True,  These things will happen
  3. John’s enthusiasm over the moment. Vs 10
    1. John falls at the feet of the angel and worships.
    2. Angel corrects him.
    3. Spirit of prophecy is to lift up the preciousness of Jesus.
  4. Jesus returns to a hostile earth. Vs 11- 16
    1. Faithful and True  names that show that everything He promised is going to happen.
      1. Read 2 Thessalonians 1: 7 -10 to see how this is fulfilled.
      2. He is coming as a warrior, but in righteousness.
      3. Isaiah 64: 1, 2 is now being fulfilled.  Would God rend the heavens and come down so the mountains would shake…your name will be known to your enemies.
    2. Description Vs 13 – 16
      1. eyes like flames of fire as nothing is hidden from His sight.
      2. Many crowns.
        1. Beast ruled over 10 crowns, but Jesus over many.
        2. Last time he was on earth, he wore a crown of thorns, but now it is many crowns of rulership over the world.
      3. Name known only to Himself.
        1. Mystery of Jesus that we are going to spend and eternity getting to know.
      4. Robe dipped in blood.
        1. This corresponds to Isaiah 63: 1 – 6
        2. Blood could be a reminder of the cross or the blood of His enemies.
      5. He strikes the enemies his enemies with the sword of His mouth.
        1. Isaiah 11: 4 smite the earth with the rod of His mouth.
        2. 2 Thessalonians 2: 8 then the man of lawlessness will be revealed, but The Lord Jesus will kill him with the breath of his mouth and destroy him by the splendor of His coming.
        3. Coming in Wrath.
          1. Found 13 times in chapters 6 – 19 so Jesus is more than just the solemn sad Jesus who we can snuggle with.
      6. Name King of Kings and Lord of Lords
        1. Universal reign of God.
  5. Invitation to the Banquet of God. 17, 18
    1. Angel’s brightness is greater than the sun as you can still see him.
    2. Saw the marriage supper of the Lamb, but if you reject that, you are invited to the Banquet of God.

        2. Lord’s supper where we remember the sacrifice of Jesus
        3. Marriage supper of the Lamb
        4. PARTICIPATE IN THE FIRST THREE AND MISS THE FOURTH the banquet of God.
        5. WE ARE ALL GOING TO BE AT ONE OF THESE BANQUETS AT SOME TIME IN OUR LIVES.
  6. Antichrist and allies destroyed. Vs 17 – 21
    1. This is Armageddon from Revelation 16: 16 – 21
    2. Maybe a battle to keep Jesus from the earth. Vs 19
    3. Beast and false prophet are captured alive and thrown alive into the lake of fire.
      1. Eternity in hell for a 3 1/2 year reign?
      2. They are going to be joined there momentarily but they are the first two residents.
      3. Great White throne judgment will happen and guilty will be cast out. Revelation 20: 11-15
      4. Entire army killed by the presence of God.
  7. BE PART OF THE MARRIAGE SUPPER OF THE BANQUET OF GOD
