1. Justice of the Judges

  1. Judges appointed for the people. Deuteronomy 16: 18
    1. They were appointed over the people to judge disputes
      1. If the problems were to great, they were to bring the cases to the place that the Lord appointed. Deuteronomy 17: 8
        1. this would eventually be Jerusalem.
    2. The higher court had the responsibility to interpret the law and decide what to do about a case. Deuteronomy 17: 11
  2. Judgments point toward the coming of the Messiah.
    1. He will not judge by what His eyes see, nor make a decision by what His ears hear; but with righteousness He will judge the poor, and decide with fairness for the afflicted of the earth. Isaiah 11: 3,4
  3. First coming, he did not fulfill the prophecies about being a judge.
    1. God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him John 3: 17
  4. Bible does speak about himself as judge though.
    1. Jesus calls himself judge John 5: 30 I can do nothing on my own. I judge as God tells me. Therefore, my judgment is just, because I carry out the will of the one who sent me, not my own will.
    2. Paul called Jesus the righteous judge 2 Timothy 4: 8
    3. Apostles call Jesus judge One appointed by God as judge of the living and the dead Acts 10: 42
    4. Paul we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ. 2 Corinthians 5: 10
      1. he who believes in Him is not judged, he who does not believe has been judged already because he has not believed int he name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3: 18

2. Israel’s King.

  1. You will set a king over you whom the Lord your God chooses. Deuteronomy 17: 15
    1. Samuel sons 1 Samuel 8: 2, 3
      1. Samuel was in his forties when he was rejected.
    2. Israel demanded a king like the other nations 1 Samuel 8: 5
    3. They have rejected the Lord as God 1 Samuel 8: 7 – 9
  2. When you choose a king Vs 15
    1. Man God chooses
    2. Must be a fellow Israelite.
    3. Copy of the Torah before the king at all times. Deuteronomy 17: 18 – 20
  3. Jesus fulfilled these requirements.
    1. God appointed Jesus Hebrews 5: 5
    2. Fellow Israelite as he traces his roots back to David.
    3. King had a copy of the Torah, Jesus was the Torah become flesh. John 1: 14

3. Prophet Comes 18: 18

  1. A prophet like Moses will be raised up 18: 15
    1. Deuteronomy 34: 10 never a prophet like Moses again.
    2. So this prophet has to be Jesus.
  2. Apostles declared Jesus like Moses Acts 7: 37
  3. Moses received revelation directly from God. Deuteronomy 34: 10
    1. Jesus only did what he saw his Father doing John 5: 19, 20
    2. Only speak what his father is speaking John 12: 49
  4. Jesus more glory than Moses Hebrews 3: 3
  5. How will we know he is from God? 18: 21
    1. satan coming with false signs to deceive 2 Thessalonians 2: 8 – 10
    2. any prophet that leads people away from the commandments is a false prophet.
    3. We will know people by their fruits Matthew 7: 16, 17
  6. The test of the Kosher
    1. Does everything line up with the requirements of the Torah.
    2. Pharisees had a problem with Jesus and his healing on the sabbath.
    3. Jesus had to do everything Kosher or he would be a false prophet.

4. Going to War. 20: 2 – 4

  1. A certain priest was to rally the people.
    1. EXAMPLE Samuel 1 Samuel 7: 
  2. Jesus will lead us into battle Zechariah 4: 6
  3. Jesus shatter the enemies Psalm 110: 4 – 7
  4. How they fight.
    1. Offer terms of peace 20: 10-12
      1. forsake other idols and acknowledge Israels God
      2. Then you can become a part of the land
    2. Psalm 68: 30, 31 war against the nations, but Egypt and Ethiopia offer terms of peace.
  5. We are the city under siege and Messiah comes to rescue us by offering peace.
  6. During the war, what about the trees? Vs19, 20
    1. Man is a tree?
    2. Tree planted by water will bear fruit in every season Jeremiah 17: 7,8
    3. We don’t bear fruit then we are taken away John 15: 2, 6
    4. Fruit is the result of repentance Matthew 3: 8
  7. Judge coming and every tree will be burned Ezekiel 20: 47 – 49
    1. If this is what happens to the righteous, what result do the wicked have. 1 Peter 4: 18
