      3. Cross on a hill gave Jesus the victory
    5. This is what I will do for you, now will you come into Covenant with me?
  2. Covenant Marriage
    1. Moses presenting Israel like a best man presenting the Bride
    2. They were going to receive the Torah or Covenant between man and God
      1. God did not just want to deliver the people, but to bring them into covenant with Himself.
      2. This is the setting aside of the people of Israel
        1. God gave them the Torah so they are blessed Romans 3: 2
    3. Moses brought the people out to meet God Exodus 19: 17
      1. Like a bridegroom in a wedding.
    4. God did miracles at the giving of the law
      1. All the people stood. 19: 7
      2. All the people saw 20: 18
      3. All the people heard Exodus 24: 7
    5. The sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder. 19: 19
      1. The last trumpet will sound at the resurrection 1 Corinthians 15: 52 the first trumpet is here.
      2. First trumpet God came down to Sinai
      3. The last trumpet He is coming in the clouds and every eye will see him Revelation 1: 7
      4. God came to Sinai with myriads of angels Psalm 68: 17, 18
      5. When he returns, he will be coming with the angels Matthew 16: 27
    6.  Covenant
      1. We give everything to God and he gives everything to us. Love, power eternal life.

      2. More than a promise
        1. Total commitment, absolute requirement, to obey and make happen even at the cost of ones life.

        1. Cuts, everlasting.

      5. Covenants in plural form
        1. Romans 9: 3 – 5

      6. Build upon each other
        1. Sense is that they build upon one another
        2. First covenant Noah Genesis 6: 18
        3. Last Covenant Isaiah 55: 1 – 6 and repeated in Ezekiel 34: 23 – 31
        4. Hebrews 8: 13 states that the old one is obsolete.
          1. Through the cross
          2. What ended
          3. What came through changed
          4. What came through unchanged
      7. People will be called to obey the covenant
        1. They broke it with the golden calf Jeremiah 31: 32
        2. Now God will put the law in their hearts and reprogram us to be able to obey Jeremiah 31: 33
      8. God is going to come and speak with Moses directly so the people will believe in him Exodus 19: 9
        1. So there is no doubt that Moses just went up the mountain and wrote these himself.
      9. Prepare yourselves for God is going to move on the third day. Exodus 19: 16
  3. The Ten Commandments
    1. The Ten are not the whole list of commandments
    2. They stand as the foundation of the rest of the law.
    3. Still apply today
      1. I AM the Lord

      2. No Other Gods
        1. You cannot serve two masters Matthew 6: 24
      3. Lord’s name in vain
        1. Our Father in heaven Hallowed be your name Matthew 6: 9
      4. Sabbath
        1. Sabbath rest in Jesus Matthew 11:28, 29
      5. Father and Mother
        1. Rebuked those who belittled parents Mark 7: 10, 11
      6. Murder
        1. Anger to murder  and turning the other cheek Matthew 7: 10, 11
      7. Adultery
        1. Lustful eye and heart Matthew 5: 28
      8. theft
        1. Go the extra mile for those around you Matthew 5: 42 Freely give because you have freely received Matthew 10: 8
      9. False Witness
        1. Jesus came to testify to the truth Everyone  who is of the truth hears my voice John 18: 37
      10. Covetousness
        1. Give away wealth and seek the kingdom Luke 12:15
  4. Sinai and Pentecost
    1. Pentecost is not a New Testament celebration.
    2. It is a celebration of the giving of the Torah
    3. Israel camped in front of the mountain
    4. Word for camped is singular so they camp in front of the mountain
      1. When the day of Pentecost came they were all with one accord in one place.
      2. Congregation formed which is also the word for church.
    5. Prepare yourselves for God is going to move on the third day. Exodus 19: 16
    6. People saw the fire, trumpet, cloud and lightening flashes. 15 – 18
      1. Seventy languages spoken and sparks came upon the people.
