There’s a word that’s been floating around here lately:
“Burn.”
What is a Burn? Simply stated, a Burn is a time set aside for worship and prayer.
We believe in the power of prayer. We believe that when we pray and seek God, things change. WE change!
2 Corinthians 3:18 has always been one of my favorite verses. It may have something to do with the fact that it happened to be written on a plaque that hung on our living room wall above the piano when I was a child. In our household, that meant that it was inevitably going to be turned into a song, which it was, by my sister, Jodi. So, for pretty much as long as I can remember I have been singing,
and we, with our unveiled faces
reflecting like mirrors, the brightness of the Lo-oo-o-ord
all grow brighter as we are tu-ur-urned
into the image that we reflect
Second Corinthians three eighteen, ooohhh yeahhh
I think there’s a cassette tape with that song on it somewhere in my parents’ basement. It’s a classic.
But seriously, that’s a great verse. Actually, 2 Corinthians 3 is a pretty amazing chapter in the Bible. Because of the sacrifice of Jesus, we can enter into the very presence of God. Our sins are covered by His blood and we can come to Him and worship without shame or fear. We can have boldness because of the glory of God that we can carry with us all of the time.
All of this expounding on 2 Corinthians 3, just to say, come to the Burn. This is a time we have set aside to seek the face of God. As we look into His glory, we are changed by His Spirit.
But we Christians have no veil over our faces;
we can be mirrors that brightly reflect the glory of the Lord.
And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us,
we become more and more like him.
