Matthew 13: 24 – 30

Matthew 13: 36 – 43

1. The parable is explained to the disciples.

Vs. 24, 37 the farmer is Jesus Christ.

Vs 24, 38 the field is the world not the church.

Vs 24 , 38 good seed represents those who belong to the kingdom

Vs 25, 38 the weeds represent those who belong to the devil

A. Weeds is a word darnel it is indistinguishable from wheat stalks until it gets closer to the harvest.

the darnel is not from God but from its father the devil (John 8: 44)

1 John 3: 8 but when people keep on sinning, it shows they belong to the devil.

B. New Seed planted in us

Romans 6: 4, 5 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

The new seed has the likeness of the resurrected body of Jesus

So we are one of two seeds

  1. One in the likeness of the Devil
  2. One like the resurrected body of Christ

2.Harvest reveals the seed

The people did not recognize the type of wheat it was until the harvest came closer

3. Destiny of the Seeds

What is the difference between darnel and real wheat? The makeup of the seed.

1 John 3: 8 When people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil.

2 Peter 1: 23 For you have been born again.(Not to a life that will end quickly) Your new life did not come from your earthly parents because the life they gave you will end in death.(corruptible seed) But this new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word (seed) of God

We are created to look like our father and conform to his resurrected body. Romans 11: 36 – 12: 1, 2

4. Producing a Harvest

Our roots need to go down deep into Christ Colossians 2: 7

Philippians 1: 27 – 28 Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in one spirit, contending as one man for the faith of the gospel 28 without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved–and that by God.

Key Point: The depth of our roots will determine our harvest
