Key Point: God is calling us to create a moment for those who will follow us.
1 Samuel 17:34-37, NIV
David said to Saul, “Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a
bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it, struck it and rescued the
sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed
it. Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will
be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. The LORD who
delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the
hand of this Philistine.”
1. Looking Back Biblically.
Remember = Recall Cause to remember, record, mention, bring back a feeling.
We can be very selective on how we remember the past
There has to be a difference between looking back and creating a moment
2. Creating the Next Moment
It is never easy creating a remembrance
John 16: 21 It will be like a woman experiencing the pains of labor. When her child is born, her anguish gives place to joy because she has brought a new person into the world
Each battle was just training ground for the bigger battle that was ahead. This is going to create a moment for those who will follow us
3. David’s Remembering
- Rehearsing the victory
- Report the source of our victory
- Reflecting with Thanksgiving
Isaiah 61: 3 garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness
Praise will do battle against fear in our lives.
