No one is born with virtue, we make our own. Character is not what one does at moments in their lives, but what they do as an overall existence. Matthew 7 is exploring the need for character formation.

We can argue with our thoughts when we begin to worry. God sees–and He cares! Being sure that God is good and not measuring it by the way you are perceiving the circumstances that are happening around you. Have confidence He is good and sometimes the circumstances around us fight against that, but you pursue him in faith.

The Sermon on the Mount pushes forward and the next topic that Jesus talks about is what rewards we should expect. It is a metric of what happens when we are following the early [part of the sermon. We continue through Matthew and the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus begins to tell us the importance of focusing on not just doing the things that God asks of us, but to do them only for the sight of God—not others.

We finished Matthew 5! After learning all about how we are called to be perfect because of Jesus living in us, we now looking into chapter 6 and the fruit that will come from a life lived with Christ. Yet, it is telling us to do these deeds in secret except being seen by God.

Continuing to read Matthew 5, Jesus spoke about loving the unlovable. It is easy to love people that love you, but in order to love perfectly, like God, you must love those who hate you. How do we operate living in two different universes?

A problem can always arise at any point. Sometimes big problems can worry us and change the way we are living our lives. But most of those angry tigers are made of paper—they can’t hurt anything.

Jesus lived a perfect life. It was completely for the glory of God, and not to himself. This seems ideal but it also means that people would accuse him of things—he wasn’t the Messiah, he was a madman, even that he was demon-possessed—and he never defended himself. He only defended God.

Matthew 5:27-32 explains that the law goes deeper then we think when it comes to adultery and divorce. It is not about toeing the line and seeing how close we can get before it is labeled a sin, it is about the heart. Being righteous is not just doing righteous things.

Today we are fortunate to have Connie Wilson with us from Israel!  Her and Bill, her husband, have a passion for Israel and God’s chosen people. They desire to see restoration and peace in the governments of Israel, USA, and leadership around the world!

We continue the adventure through the sermon that Jesus preached on the mount on the hillside overlooking the Sea of Galilee. At this point (around Matthew 5:21) Jesus brings up anger and offense. As Christians, how do we handle our offense, and what do we do when we offend others?
