In getting a Vision of who Jesus is, we are able to face the battles that lay before us.

This will give us a firm foundation in which to stand on when we have to face the trials that may be in front of us.

  1. God is Good

There are 61 Bible verses state this fact that God is Good.

He can do nothing but what is absolutely best.

He not only does good, He is good. He is the source of all good. He is good beyond all others.

2. Goodness defined

Exodus 33: 19 I will make all my goodness pass before you and I will call out my name

34: 5 – 7

  1. Compassion and Mercy
  2. Slow to anger
  3. Abounding with unfailing love and faithfulness
  4. Lavish love to a thousand generations
  5. I forgive iniquity, rebellion and sin.

This is summed up in this.  He is ready to forgive the sinner, relieve the needy and give undeserved benefits.  Long suffering slow to anger giving people time to repent

Bible defines goodness as God.

  1. He is good to all his creation Psalm 145: 9
  2. He satisfies all creation Vs 15, 16
  3. Sun shines and rain falls on good and evil  Matthew 5: 45
  4. He is good to those who are unthankful and wicked Luke 6: 35
  5. Every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father above  James 1: 17

3. Proper Perspective

God is Good is proper footing that is necessary if we are going to be able to deal with the situations that are in front of us.

There is frustration of living in a broken world.

EXAMPLE:  1896 a Frenchman came up with and idea called motion pictures.  It was called “The Arrival of a train at a station” and was 50 seconds long.  As the train was coming at the crowd, they panicked.  With no context, they thought that it was real when in reality, it was all lights and mirrors.

satan tries to destroy our confidence in who God is and ruin our footing.

Perspective can’t be self but God to understand goodness. You are good to the degree that I am happy.   GOODNESS IS NOT NICENESS

Goodness can’t be defined by my reference of time. It is too small of a sampling of what is good.

EXAMPLE: ask one person what kind of ice cream, favorite car, is Kim a great name for a man. they like and put that on everyone.

We try to figure God out with too small of a sampling compared to eternity.

4. Purpose of Revealed Goodness

Real sampling

God for whom and through whom everything was made, chose to bring many children into glory. Hebrews 2: 10

Ultimate plan is to bring many children into his presence forever.

Romans 8: 28 All things work together for good for them who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

Purpose is that many children would come into his inheritance.

World will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the lord. Habakkuk 2:14

Psalm 119: 68 You are good and do only good.

Praise the lord for his goodness Psalm 106: 1  Praise comes form the word to be boastful When we praise we are boasting about the good things God has done.

We remember temporal blessings but we also need to remember eternal blessings that are in him.
